THE BEST BAKERY STYLE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
  1. These right here are THE BEST chocolate chip cookies you will ever need and have! A nutty flavor from the browned butter with a crispy outer shell and a gooey chocolatey center that melts in your mouth. A true crowd pleaser. It’s like going to your favorite bakery, except in the comfort of your own home. It is a quick and easy recipe that only requires one bowl to mix all the ingredients in and chills in the fridge for only 30 mins. You really can not beat that. There are tons of recipes out there, including some on my very own blog, that require overnight chilling or a stand mixer to get the job done; and although those cookies come out fantastic these come out just as amazing but with way less time and effort to consume your day. If you need a quick cookie recipe for the day of an event and forgot to make it ahead of time, like most recipes require, then this is the one for you. Most of the time people do not want to make things way in advance or like me, forget to start a recipe 24-48 hours beforehand in order for them to be done by the time your event/party takes place.

Best consumed fresh, they are my favorite cookie to eat the next day or even days to come. Can even throw it in the toaster oven for 2-4 mins and they come out as if they were fresh out of the oven. I am not a huge fan of hardened chocolate and day old cookies but these are by far my favorite, and I am not being biased because it is my recipe. I guess just trust me and find our yourselves!

My inspiration for these were a few of my favorite NYC cookies. I was on the hunt for some of the best cookies and believe it or not I have a few that are absolutely incredible I had to recreate. They were crunchy and had a crisp layer on the outside with an indescribable gooey and soft center that was filled with tons of chocolate! If you are interested in those bakeries for your next NYC trip or you live there I highly recommend the following (starting with my favorite at 1):

  1. Culture Espresso (must try)
  2. La Mercerie
  3. Seven Grams
  4. Levaine (of course)

TIPS:

Good quality chocolate makes these taste absolutely incredible, whether it is chips, chunks, discs, or crushed up bars of chocolate they give them that bakery style taste!

They will need to be refrigerator for 30-45 mins, no exceptions. I say this because otherwise, your cookie will be flat and crispy. The refrigeration time allows for the butter to solidify slightly since it was melted and browned.

This is a one bowl recipe which makes the clean-up process that much more enjoyable. It is an extremely easy recipe to follow. Typically “Bakery style” cookies or those that consider recipes “the best” have tons of steps, use tons of dishes and require a lot more effort and time (i.e. softened butter which requires you to take it out way ahead of time, different types of flour that not everyone will have just sitting around in their pantry, a “secret ingredient” that requires you to go buy etc.)

I suggest letting these cool on a cooling rack for at least 5 minutes before digging in because they are slightly gooey on the inside.

Baking Time

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter; melted and browned (2 sticks)

  • 1 cup brown sugar; packed

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 2 ½ cup all purpose flour

  • 2 teaspoons baking soda

  • 1 - 1½ cup chopped chocolate bars mixed with chips

Directions

  • Melt and brown the sticks of butter in a saucepan or fry pan until golden brown and little specs form at the bottom. It will go through several stages or foaming and will create a caramel like aroma. DO NOT burn, must keep an eye on it and stir constantly.

  • In a large bowl, add both the brown and cane sugar. Pour over the melted browned butter and stir until combined

  • Add in the vanille extract and eggs one at a time; stirring after each addition.

  • Add in the dry ingredients - flour, baking soda and a pinch of salt. Stir well until all dry ingredients are mixed in.

  • Chop a bar of chocolate or add any type of chocolate that you prefer and fold into the dough. (I like to use several different types such as chocolate chips and chopped chocolate) Or add any additional add-ins you may like.

  • Cover and let refrigerate for 30-45 mins (DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP). While this is sitting, preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

  • Take the dough out of the refrigerator and using an ice cream scoop form dough balls. Place about two inches apart. Bake for 10-12 mins until the tops are slightly golden. Remove from baking sheet and place on cooling rack (the centers will still be slightly gooey so let sit or enjoy as is)
