PECAN PIE BROWNIES

If you love pecan pie and brownies than these will satisfy all your dessert cravings because this is the best of both worlds! I am not a huge fan of many types of nuts but these brownie pecan pie bars are delicious. Pecan pie is this nutty, caramel like, sugary base tossed together with some pecan pieces; it has this rich and syrup texture to it. Imagine that on top of a batch of your favorite brownies? It is unlike anything else. It has a great array of textures to it with bursting flavors of nuts, chocolate, fudgey, gooey, sweet, sugary, caramel like consistent. Pecan pie is great, don’t get me wrong, but why not put that same filling on something else like some decadent brownies?

It is a pretty easy recipe that just follows my small batch brownie recipe, cooking that halfway through its cook time and making the pecan pie filling in the meantime. Pouring that thick syrup caramel filling on top and baking it some more just to get these as the final result! Nothing better. I was never really a fan of pecan pie or pecans in general but these are so delicious. You can definitely taste the pecans but there are so many other flavors that one flavor doesn’t overpower the others. The pecans are also soaked in this filling and baking in it which creates a softer and less crunchy nut.

I used the Amoretti Natural Flavor in Butter Pecan which made this recipe so delicious! Didn’t have to add any additional spices to create this just their natural syrups. Their wide array of flavors allow you to create just about any dessert or savory dish with the amazing products that they offer so that it is easy and quick to prepare. Just a Tablespoon of their butter pecan flavor gave this dish the exact flavor of a pecan pie and is so delicious

If you do not have this type of syrup you can add leave it out and it will still taste the same. The brown sugar and corn syrup will create a caramel like thick syrup that will be sugary and sweet as well as form that perfect pecan pie filling layer. It is almost like a sticky bun flavor and texture.

Ingredients

  • BROWNIES
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

  • 4 tablespoons vegetable/canola oil

  • 1 cup of chopped chocolate (128 g)

  • 1½ cups sugar

  • 4 eggs

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

  • 1 teaspoon corn starch

  • 1 cup all purpose flour

  • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder

  • pinch of salt

  • PECAN PIE FILLING
  • ¼ cup sugar

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • ¼ cup corn syrup or maple syrup

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tablespoon Amoretti Nutter Pecan Natural Flavor Syrup

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (half of a stick)

  • ½ - ¾ chopped pecans 

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 teaspoons flour

Directions

  • BROWNIES
  • Preheat the oven to 325 Degrees F and line a 8x8 or a 9x9 baking pan with parchment paper or baking spray

  • Add chocolate and butter to a bowl and place over simmer water (double boil)

  • Add flour, corn starch, cocoa powder and salt to a bowl and set aside

  • In a separate bowl, with a whisk beat together eggs, sugar and oil for about one minute

  • Once the chocolate butter mixture has fully melted and is smooth, slowly pour into the sugar and egg mixture. Stirring constantly while pouring.

  • Add in the dry ingredients and mix until just combined

  • Pour into the prepared baking dish and bake for about 18-20 mins until just set on the edges but not fully cooked (going to cook longer with the pecan pie filling on top)

  • PECAN PIE FILLING
  • While the brownies are doing their first bake, prepare the pecan pie filling to pour on top. Chop the pecan pieces or keep whole based on preference.

  • In a saucepan, add all ingredients (except the pecans) and let melt together and simmer slightly about 3-4 mins

  • Add in the pecans and stir until completely coated

  • Once the brownies are done with the first bake, take it out of the oven and pour the pecan pie mixture over the top evenly. Place back in the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 mins. The center of the pecan pie layer can seem a little jiggly which is perfect. It will set once out of the oven.
